Sequencing Action and Dialog in a Script

  • If you add both action and dialog to the same line of a script, the character will do both simultaneously (for example, speak a line of dialogue while walking from one spot to another).

  • Action and/or dialog on separate lines will occur sequentially, so the next line will not begin until the previous line has been completed, unless you change the timing. (See “Using the Timing Feature” in the Forum or the User Guide in the documentation.)

  • Action in combination with dialog can be used for dramatic effect. For example, you can have a character stand up or sit down while speaking, or turn to or away from someone, or leave or enter a room.

  • If a character is speaking multiple lines of dialog, you can break them up into individual lines in the script interspersed with action. So instead of standing still while monologuing, a character can talk to other characters while walking around the room, interact with furniture or props, and use different emotional states for each line.
